Charles Stewart grant used by church youth group

Ed Close has made his 2010 BCBA Charles Stewart grant go further than anyone expected.

Close, instead of just using it for himself, gave it to his church youth group and got them interested in beekeeping.

“The Young People Group at our church wanted to pursue a project in nature so I suggested beekeeping,” he said.  “I explained in the application form the reason for the funds, to purchase a hive and the bees.”

And within a couple of weeks of receiving the grant, he had the young people at Faith Presbyterian Church building their hives, as the pictures below will attest. Fifteen of the church youth are involved in the project.

The hive will be located on the church property in Lenoir City.
