The Blount County Beekeepeers Association’s annual Field Day — designed to show new beekeepers what it’s like to get into a hive full of bees — will be held Saturday, April 24, 2010 at Charlie Parton’s house on 1730 East Brown School Road in Maryville.

Bees on a frame

Participants will be able to see the bees in action and will receive tips on locating a queen, identifying brood cells, and spotting problems with the hives.

Participants should bring a veil, some protective clothing, and a hive tool if possible.

Directions: From Sevierville Road/411 North off South Washington Street (Fort Craig School), go south 1.9 miles and turn left onto Brown School Road and go .3 miles to a three-way stop. Turn right onto East Brown School Raod and continue approximately 1.4 miles. You’ll come to Charlie’s driveway on the right but continue past that and look for a sign at the driveway near the barn.

From Wildwood Road at Mount Lebanon Baptist Church, go southwest toward Peppermint Road approximately .5 miles and turn left onto East Brown School Raod. Go approximately .7 miles and look for a sign at the left near the barn.
